JET Send-Off Reception

On July 24th, Ambassador Atsumi hosted a Send-off Reception for eight new JET participants (one is already working in Japan and one more participant will be added). As we celebrate a special year that commemorates the 25th anniversary of Jamaica’s participation in the JET Programme as well as the very first year that Jamaica will have a Sports Exchange Advisor as part of the JET Programme in addition to Assistant Language Teachers, Ambassador Atsumi gave a congratulatory message to the departing JETs, wishing for their success, and encouraged them to immerse themselves in the Japanese culture and share the Jamaican heritage. Ambassador Atsumi also highlighted the role played by Senator The Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, who was in attendance, in making the SEA position possible, and expressed appreciation for her support to the Japan-Jamaica relations, including the JET Programme.
Minister Johnson Smith, in her remarks, noted the strong bilateral “J-J” partnership based on cooperation in a wide range of areas, highlighted the robust people-to-people engagement between our two countries, and congratulated the departing JET participants.
At this reception, a representative from the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport conveyed a remark on behalf of the Honorable Olivia Grange, OJ, CD. And the President of the JET Alumni Association in Jamaica (JETAAJA) also delivered a remark, wishing all the best in their endeavors in Japan and highlighting the role of the JETAAJA.
To date, more than 470 Jamaicans have participated in the JET Programme, contributing to the deepening of the Japan-Jamaican bilateral relations at a grass roots level.
