On 11 May 2026, Ambassador Maruyama visited Mr. Garth Gayle, President of the JAAA and exchanged views on the bilateral exchanges in the field of sports, with a focus on the relationship between the JAAA and Tottori Prefecture in the athletics.
President Gayle and executives of the JAAA shared with Ambassador Maruyama upcoming events and exchanges scheduled with Tottori. Ambassador Maruyama, in return, expressed appreciation for the key role the partnership between the JAAA and Tottori play in the bilateral relations, highlighting the excitement that the superb performance of the Jamaican athletics team brought to the people of Japan during the World Athletics Championship Game held in Tokyo last year as well as the activities of Ms. Christine Day, former Olympian who has been in Tottori as a Sports Exchange Advisor as part of the JET Programme.
We hope that the J-J Partnership in sports will continue to deepen as Tottori and Westmoreland mark the 10th anniversary of the sister city relations.
