Ambassador Maruyama’s Visit to Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) and LNG Power Plant (SJPC) (1 May 2026)

  On May 1, Ambassador Maruyama visited the System Operations facility of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) in Kingston, as well as the 194-megawatt combined cycle natural gas power plant in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, operated by the South Jamaica Power Company (SJPC). The visit was held at the invitation of Marubeni, a Japanese company with shares in JPS, and JPS. Ambassador Maruyama was welcomed by senior representatives of Marubeni, JPS President and CEO Hugh Grant, and other company executives.

  During the visit, the Ambassador received an overview of JPS’ operations and exchanged views on energy security, the need for continued infrastructure development, and efforts to further bolster Jamaica’s electricity sector. The Ambassador also toured the facilities, including the power supply control systems and generation equipment.
