The Japan Foundation is now providing an opportunity to invite to Japan those who have been studying Japanese at Japanese language institutes and other institutions and have achieved excellent results in their studies.
1 Application Guidelines

2 Application Materials
Those who are interested in this programme should complete the following and submit them to the Embassy of Japan in Jamaica:
(1) Application Form (Word or PDF)
(2) Self-Introduction Letter (Word)
(3) Health Certificate and Food and Allergies Questionnaire (Word)
(4) Certificate of Japanese Language Proficiency (Taken within the last three years) (optional, if applicable)
3 Selection Procedure
There will be (1) a review of application documents, (2) a written test, and (3) an interview.
The Embassy of Japan in Jamaica will reach out to the individuals who have passed each phase of the selection procedure. The written test and the interview phases will most likely take place between May 6 and 8th, 2026.
4 Where to Submit the Application Materials
Please submit your completed application documents to the Embassy of Japan in Jamaica or email the scanned documents to info@kg.mofa.go.jp. (If sending my email, please make sure that the file size does not exceed 10 MB.)
Applications need to be received by the Embassy by 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Q. Can I apply if I am studying Japanese myself or on language-learning apps (i.e., not taking Japanese in school setting)?
A. Yes. If you are confident your Japanese is good enough, take a chance and apply.
Q. Can I apply if I am a Jamaican national living outside Jamaica?
A. Yes, you can, if you are either (1) a Jamaican national or (2) a permanent resident of Jamaica. However, you need to be able to travel to Jamaica for an exam and interview (if successful).
Q. Can I apply if I am a non-Jamaican national living in Jamaica?
A. Regrettably, you are not able to apply to the Embassy of Japan in Jamaica. Please check if the Embassy of Japan in the country of your nationality has the application open.
