Ambassador Atsumi’s attendance at the closing ceremony for the Training “Koban system” Community Policing Project (19 September 2025)

  On September 19, His Excellency Yasuhiro Atsumi, Ambassador of Japan to Jamaica, attended the closing ceremony of the training under the project “Capacity Building on Community Policing – KOBAN System.”  He commended the 37 members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) who successfully completed a one-week training program.
  The Embassy of Japan, in collaboration with the Embassy of Brazil, has been advancing this trilateral initiative through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency, to support the JCF’s capacity-building efforts. On this occasion, three officers from the Military Police of the State of São Paulo were dispatched to share their expertise and present the Brazilian Koban model of community policing. The JCF officers are expected to adapt and apply these strategies in accordance with the local context in Jamaica.
  The ceremony was also attended by Ambassador Stone Roofe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security and Peace; Ambassador Miller, Chief Technical Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; Ambassador Recarte, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Brazil; ACP Watson; and other officials.
