From September 11th to September 12th, Ambassador Atsumi visited Montego Bay to exchange views with the Mayor of Montego Bay, Hon. Richard Vernon, the President of Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Oral Heaven, Regional Director of the Jamaica Tourist Board, Mrs. Odette Soberam-Dyer, and so on ・ In addition, Ambassador Atsumi toured the Sangster International airport and the Montego Bay Convention Center.
Mayor Vernon asked for his cooperation in establishing a sister city relationship with a local government in Japan, such as Okinawa. Mrs. Soberam-Dyer stated that the current number of tourists to Jamaica was decreasing compared to last year due to the impact of Hurricane Beryl in July, but it was expected to recover and reach a record high level this year.
