Shamisen& Japanese Folk Music Concert

From March 25 to 27, 2024, the Embassy of Japan in Jamaica welcomed London-based Tsugaru shamisen player Hibiki Ichikawa and traditional ballad singer Akari Mochizuki for "Shamisen & Folk Music Concerts" at the Church Teachers’ College, Mandeville on the 25th, at the Institute of Jamaica, Kingston on the 26th, and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kingston on the 27th. Approximately 280 guests attended the event, including The Honourable Alando Terrelonge, MP, Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The event, which commemorated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Jamaica and the Japan-CARICOM Friendship Year 2024, provided an opportunity for Jamaicans to experience traditional Japanese music, Tsugaru Shamisen and folk music, and deepen their understanding of Japanese culture while they were having fun.
