2nd Japanese Ambassador's Cup, Karate Tournament

On January 20, 2024, the 2nd Japanese Ambassador's Cup, Karate Tournament was held at the University of Technology (UTECH) in collaboration with the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) of Jamaica. Approximately 110 people attended the event, including The Honourable Fayval Williams, MP, Minister of Education and Youth; Officers from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, members of the diplomatic corps, Miss International Jamaica 2023 and athletes. The Ambassador's Cup featured demonstrations by Japanese karate master, Mr. Hiroyoshi Okazaki, Chairman and Chief Instructor at ISKF Headquarters in Philadelphia and the athletes from Jamaica Karate Federation.
After the tournament, a reception was held to celebrate the "60th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Jamaica" and "Japan-CARICOM Friendship Year 2024" through sports. During the reception, Ambassador Atsumi presented a Certificate of Commendation to Mr. Garry Turnbull for his longtime efforts to promote Japanese karate culture. Mr. Gary Turnbull has been practicing karate since 1968 and has since been promoting karate as the Chairman and Chief Instructor of International Shotokan Karate Federation Jamaica.
