Washoku(Japanese Cuisine) demonstration

2023/10/11
On October 10, the Embassy of Japan in Jamaica held a Washoku (Japanese Cuisine) demonstration at the Heart College of Hospitality Services in Runaway Bay. About 50 guests attended this event (about 40 people watched live stream through Youtube), including The Hon. Mrs. Norma Walters, CD – Custos Rotulorum for the Parish of St. Ann, food industry and hotel industry personnel, local residents and the students.
After lectures on basic knowledge about Japanese Cuisine, bento(lunch box) culture and local specialties, Mr. Hiroshi Akiyama, Japanese Ambassador’s chef, gave a cooking demonstration. Mr. Akiyama gave a cooking demonstration of "Chicken Nanban" using chicken, which is also popular in Jamaica, and "Norimaki" in which students could choose their own ingredients. During the cooking demonstration, students from the school also tried to make these plates and deepened their knowledge of Japanese Cuisine.
