On September 20,2023 H.E.Mr.ATSUMI Yasuhiro Ambassador of Japan to Jamaica conferred the decoration of ‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star’, upon Ambassador Claudia Cecile Barnes, former Ambassador to Japan, in recognition of her outstanding contribution in promoting the bilateral relationship and mutual understanding between Japan and Jamaica.

In his congratulatory speech, Ambassador ATSUMI expressed his heartfelt congratulations and great appreciation to the distinguished dedications of Ambassador Barnes, stating "her contribution to our bilateral relationship has been exceptional as she laid the groundwork of the prosperous Jamaica-Japan JJ Partnership". In reply remarks, Ambassador Barnes warmly expressed her appreciation to the conferment and Japan’s assistance contributing to development of Jamaica with the words “Receiving this prestigious award, Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, from the Government and People of Japan here today, is a moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
