Hand-Over Ceremony for Health and Medical Equipment to Jamaica under the Grant scheme of Economic and Social Development Programme FY2020

 On March 2 2021, the Virtual Hand-Over Ceremony was held for the provision of health and medical equipment from Japan to Jamaica, through FY2020 Economic and Social Development Programme. His Excellency, Mr. Masaya Fujiwara, Ambassador of Japan to Jamaica, Senator The Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade, The Honourable Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, M.P., State Minister of Health and Wellness attended the ceremony.

 Through this Grant Programme valued at 200 million Japanese yen or approximately 260 Million Jamaican dollars, various medical equipment and supplies including Mobile X-ray units, X-ray protective panels, X-ray protective aprons, Utrasound scanners - cart mounted type, Bedside monitors, and Defibrillator were provided to 7 hospitals namely, Kingston Public Hospital, Mandeville Regional Hospital, National Chest Hospital, Bustamante Hospital for Children, Cornwall Regional Hospital, St Ann's Bay Hospital and May Pen Hospital.

 This assistance is expected to contribute to the strengthening of Jamaica's health and medical system as well as to boost its COVID-19 response mechanisms in Jamaica.
