2022 MEXT Scholarships for Jamaica and the Bahamas

The Embassy of Japan is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers the scholarship for research students to Jamaicans and Bahamians commencing in the academic year April or September 2022.

Research (Graduate) Students

This scholarship is open to university graduates from Jamaica and the Bahamas, and covers a one year and half – two year period of graduate research at Japanese universities. The study area must be in the same field as the applicant studied or is now studying, or a related field. Recipients may enter Master's or Ph.D. program after passing the entrance examination given by the university concerned. The scholarship includes a half-year of Japanese language training for those who need Japanese language training. Applicants must be less than 35 years of age (born on or after April 2, 19867).

【for Bahamian Applicants】
Deadline for submission of application and supporting documents is at 4:00pm on June 16, 2021.
Please send the completed set of application to the Embassy of Japan in  Jamaica by email.

Due to the restrictions caused by the novel corona virus, for the Bahamas, writing exams will not be conducted. Please submit at the time of application A OR display during the interview B (if successfully invited) :
A. Proof of your language skills such as results of language exams and certification of graduation at time of application.
B. Adequate display of English/Japanese language skills (at level deemed appropriate for studying in chosen field in Japan) during the interview.
