1. General Information on Study in Japan

 

Japan Student Services Organization, Japan (JASSO) provides information to students from abroad wishing to study at an institution of higher education in Japan. You can download information on various scholarship opportunities sponsored by JASSO, Local Government and International Associations, and Private Foundations.

 
     
 

2. Japanese Government Scholarship Programme for Research Students (APPLICATION IS OPEN.)

 

To date, over 55,000 students from approximately 145 countries and regions around the world have studied in Japan under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship Programme which was established in 1954.

Each year, the Monbukagakusho (MEXT: Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of the Government of Japan) offers scholarship to a Jamaican, a Bahamian and a Belizean university graduate to study as a research student at any Japanese universities in the fields of the Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences. The research student can pursue the masters or doctoral course once he/she is successful in the university entrance examination which is taken in Japan. Financial support and extension of stay will be granted to the applicant.

Applications are usually available each year at the Embassy in April and the deadline for submission is usually the end of May. Applicants must be under 35 years and hold at least a Second Class Honours degree. The term of the scholarship is 18 – 24 months (including 6 months of Japanese language studies). The study area should be the same or related field that the applicant studied. .

The application process for the 2013 Monbukagakusho Scholarship Programme is OPEN.

  • All the supporting documents stated in the application guideline must accompany application (except for "Medical certificate" which should be submitted only by short-listed candidates).
  • Please do not staple documents; use paper clips to keep individual copies together.

July – October 2012    The short listed candidates must obtain acceptance letter(s) from the relevant universities in Japan.
December 2012  The final result is expected to be notified.
April or September 2013   Departure for Japan
